.history.

Marias never speaks of himself: in fact, the only clear period of his life, in his memory, is the three year-period that he spent with his lover, Tori: by now, his mind is so entangled with the shadow of the young woman that he loved, her life and the memories she shared with him have bled into his own, even as her personality has become another branch of his. In fact, from what he can remember of his life before Tori-that either shock-induced grief or the insanity that plagues him now has not erased-it was completely unremarkable: he knows that he was raised in an orphanage, though he doesn't remember where, never exactly curious about his family or his origins. He left the orphanage sometime in his early teens, wanting to see the world.

What Marias doesn't remember is that he is indeed from Kilia: though that wouldn't matter to him anyway.

His life both began and ended at age 15, on the day that he met a young mage from Kilia, with serene blue eyes and a shy, sad smile hidden beneath long black hair: the girl's name was Tori, young, brilliant, and ultimately doomed to die young. The two ended up falling in love, and Marias felt like he had found something worth holding onto, worth keeping: he shaped his life completely around her, nothing mattered to him but her happiness, he would be happy just as long as he could see her smile. Neither of them ever realized the trap he had woven for himself, and it was far too late to prevent what would happen.

Marias was 18 when the dream shattered. He never speaks of a night of lightning and rain, madness and grief, tears and blood, though he still dreams of it.

That was two years ago. Marias wanders, now, trying to hone his own skills at magic: he lives for two purposes now. He lives the life that Tori can no longer live, lives and breathes now for both of them (he doesn't know how true that is: in a way, Tori lives on, through him). He is also determined to kill her murderer, once he is strong enough. Until that day comes-and it may be a long time in coming- he will be haunted by the failure that destroyed the brightest thing in his life.

.personality.

Marias is a shadow of the young man he used to be, a cynical, jaded person who has lost all meaning of the word 'hope': with the death of the one bright and shining thing in his life, he no longer cares for much at all. He drifts back and forth between the sharp-tongued, stubborn young man he was before everything forever broke for him two years ago, and the hopeless, numb young man he has become. Since he could not save Tori, he is bound by undeserved guilt to live the life she could not, and so he lives and breathes now for both of them.

He is extraordinarily bitter, very sarcastic (as well as extremely foul-mouthed), and extremely angry, lashing out at anything and everyone, even himself, in his pain: he would rather drive others away then ever get close to anyone ever again. He hates pity above all things, and would rather be hated, rather be scorned, rather be eventually forgotten, then pitied.

His sorrow and lost love defines him, as well as the fact that he is currently a puppet dancing on twisted Karyl's marionette strings, and even if he should somehow win free of him, he has forgotten what freedom, true freedom, is like. His freedom is that he has nothing left to lose.

Marias is lost, and doesn't know how to ever find himself again. If it is even possible.

.appearance.

Tall-around 5'10"-graceful, and very slender, almost painfully so, as well as being so slight that he seems several inches smaller then he actually is, Marias is moon-beautiful, and his (unfortunately for him) rather feminine features tend toward the delicate and otherworldly in cast. The poor man can easily pass for a woman with barely any effort at all, which is strangely a good thing, though he wouldn't agree on a normal basis. He is usually scowling or glaring darkly, and while he is pretty enough, strikingly beautiful, he would be much better served (and even prettier) if he would *smile* on occasion, which isn't likely to happen any time soon. He has black hair that when loose hangs past his ankles, his one vanity in life, which he usually braids back

tightly to keep out of his way, and deep, eerie green eyes: doll's eyes, that tell of a person pushed almost past the breaking point. He favors wearing simple, dark clothing, as long as it doesn't show dirt, though he avoids any and every shade of blue.

To anyone who looks, his Kilian heritage is clear.
